Richard Whiteoak

Richard Whiteoak


Managing Director

Prior to founding the firm in 2016, Richard was a senior investor at Allan Gray, a leading Australian equities manager with over $5bn under management. Richard commenced his career as a medical doctor and went on to work as a Consultant with McKinsey & Company before leading the private buyout and development of an Australian healthcare business.

Richard holds a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from the University of Wales and an MBA with High Distinction from the University of Oxford. He is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Greg Garvin


Managing Director

Greg has extensive experience in building, advising and transforming businesses globally. Prior to Whiteoak he was Executive General Manager of People, Strategy & Stakeholders at Australia’s largest electricity transmission network, TransGrid. Greg was previously a senior Consultant with McKinsey & Company and Accenture, serving clients in Australia, the US, UK, Japan and South Africa. 

Greg holds an AB in Economics from Stanford University and an MBA from INSEAD. He is a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Lorcan Barden


Managing Director

Lorcan is an experienced corporate finance and strategy executive whose career has spanned roles in Europe, North America and Australasia. Prior to joining Whiteoak, Lorcan held senior roles with Deloitte, PwC and Accenture. He has also served as the CEO of two high-growth Australian businesses in both the listed and unlisted environments. 

Lorcan holds a Masters in Applied Finance and an MBA from Monash University, Melbourne.

Andrew Grimes


Managing Director & Head of Distribution

Andrew’s career has focused on building asset management firms from the client relationship side. Prior to joining Whiteoak he held Head of Distribution roles with Platinum Asset Management, Winton Capital and Alphinity.  Earlier in his career, Andrew was a management consultant at McKinsey and Company and a listed equities fund manager at Schroders in the UK.

Andrew hold an MA from Oxford University and MBA from the Kellogg School of Management.

Oliver Kirkland

Oliver Kirkland


Investment Manager

Oliver joined Whiteoak in 2017 to develop his career in evaluating investment opportunities and supporting portfolio companies. Oliver commenced his career as a Management Consultant at Port Jackson Partners, where he helped clients develop corporate and business unit strategies in a range of sectors including financial services, industrials, infrastructure, agriculture, and consumer goods.

Oliver holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Sydney, majoring in Economics and Finance.

Deepesh Banerji


Portfolio Advisor

Deepesh has spent his career transforming and growing innovative digital businesses. In addition to acting as Portfolio Advisor for Whiteoak, he is SVP of Technology for Deputy, a leading global workforce management software company, based in Australia. Previously, he was Vice President of Product at CBS Interactive and General Manager at Everyday Health, a digital health business which scaled to list on the NYSE.

Deepesh holds a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo in Canada, and an MBA from Fordham University in New York.

Diane is Chair of Zip Co Limited, Safe Work Australia, National Chairman of CEDA, a Non-Executive Director of AGL Energy and a Board Member of Keystart Loans.  Diane is a past President of Chief Executive Women and held senior roles in banking, including head of Westpac's Business and Technology Solutions and Services Division.  She was also a Partner at McKinsey & Company.

Diane holds a Bachelor of Economics degree from the University of Western Australia and an MBA from the University of Sydney. She is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.


John Atkin


Advisory Board Member

John is the Chairman of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Qantas Super Fund. He is a director of IPH Limited, Integral Diagnostics Limited and Outward Bound International. John's career as a Mergers & Acquisitions lawyer culminated in his appointment as Managing Partner of Blake Dawson (Ashurst). He later served as CEO of The Trust Company.

John holds a Bachelor of Arts (Hons) from The Australian National University and a Bachelor of Laws (Hons) from the University of Sydney. He has completed the Advanced Management Program at INSEAD and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Charles is a Director of Spark New Zealand Limited and Apiam Animal Health Limited, and serves as Chairman of Trinity College Melbourne. Charles spent 24 years at McKinsey & Company in New York, London and Melbourne, where he was a leader of the Retail, Consumer and Marketing practices. He is also a recipient of the President's Medal for services to the Royal Agricultural Society of Victoria.

Charles holds a Bachelor of Law & Commerce from the University of Melbourne and an MBA from Columbia Business School. He is a Graduate Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Greg is a Director of LIS Private, SEDA Group and Tract Consultants. He was formerly a partner at PwC for nearly 20 years, where he co-founded and led PwC’s Mergers & Acquisitions team nationally in Australia. Greg also operates an independent consulting business adding value to clients via his strategic, commercial, financial and transactional skills.

Greg holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne and an MBA from Melbourne Business School. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.

David is Managing Director and CEO of The a2 Milk Company. He was formerly Group President of Hanes International and has held CEO, executive and consulting roles at Pacific Brands, Foster’s Group, McKinsey & Company and PwC. David has substantial experience in the consumer and retail sectors, and functional expertise in strategy, finance, M&A and operational performance improvement.

David holds a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Melbourne. He is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia and a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants.
